This article covers what is UAN, it's importance and how to activate it.
Before proceeding further, let's know something about UAN
UAN stands for Universal Account Number. It is a unique 12 digit number allotted to you when you start working for the first time. Every month, employee's as well as employer's PF contribution is made in account linked to UAN.
In case of multiple member IDs resulting from change in jobs, every member ID gets linked to the UAN, which helps in tracking previous deposits, as well as helps in fulfilling service length requirements for PF pension eligibility.
By activating UAN you can avail the following benefits:
Now complete your KYC as well as upload Basic Details modification request from your member account. Once approved by employer, you can apply for PF withdrawals online.
View your PF passbook online and keep a track on your monthly contribution.
If you were allotted another UAN previously, you can apply online to merge both the UAN's.
Add/update your latest mobile number to receive monthly updates on your mobile.
Steps for activating UAN:
Visit EPFO Website and click on "For employees" link.
Now click on "Member UAN/Online Service"
Member e-Sewa portal opens up. For activating UAN, click on "Activate UAN" present in Important Links.
Fill the details required. Note that UAN, Name, Date of Birth and Mobile Number are mandatory fields. All the details filled should be as per EPFO Records. After filling in the details, click on "Get Authorisation Pin"
Check the "I agree" button, and enter the OTP received on the mobile number entered above.
UAN is now activated. Visit the Member E-Sewa page to login and access your account.
